For the vast majority of Lycia trips — anything based around Fethiye, Ölüdeniz, Kalkan, Patara or Kaş — fly into Dalaman (DLM). It's 45 minutes from Fethiye and the natural gateway to the whole western coast. Only choose Antalya (AYT) if your trip centres on the eastern end (Olympos, Çıralı) or on Antalya city itself. And if you're travelling the coast end to end, do the genuinely clever thing: fly into one and out of the other so you never double back.
What not to do: don't fly into Antalya for a Fethiye holiday just because the flight was £20 cheaper — a 3-hour transfer each way wipes out the saving in time, transfer cost and sanity. And don't assume Kaş "belongs" to Antalya; it's actually marginally closer to Dalaman.
The one thing that decides it: where are you basing?
Forget airport size, lounges and flight frequency for a second — the question that actually matters is which part of the coast you're staying on. The Lycian coast runs west to east from Fethiye, past Kalkan and Kaş, round to Kekova, and on to Çıralı and Olympos. Dalaman sits off the western end; Antalya off the eastern end. Your base decides your airport, full stop.
The rough dividing line falls around Kaş / Kekova. Everything west of there leans heavily Dalaman; everything east of there leans Antalya. Kaş itself is the one genuine toss-up.
Drive times from each airport
These are approximate driving times by car or private transfer — real-world, allowing for the coast's winding roads. Treat them as ballpark; summer traffic and roadworks shift them.

The pattern is obvious once you see it: Fethiye is essentially on Dalaman's doorstep, Olympos is on Antalya's, and the middle (Kaş, Kekova) is reachable from both but never quick from either.
Dalaman — the western Lycian coast
Fly Dalaman (DLM) if you're basing west
Dalaman is the gateway to the classic Lycian-coast holiday. It's tiny, easy to navigate, and just 45 minutes from Fethiye. If your trip is Ölüdeniz beaches, a Fethiye base, Kalkan villas, Patara's ruins, or Kaş's harbour, this is your airport — no contest.
Dalaman is the more seasonal, summer-weighted of the two airports. The direct-flight schedule from the UK and Europe is heaviest from roughly April to October and thins out over winter, so if you're travelling off-season, check what's actually flying before you commit. Antalya — the eastern coast and the city
Fly Antalya (AYT) if you're basing east
Antalya is a large, busy international airport with flights year-round. It's the right choice if your trip is built around the eastern Lycian end — the Chimaera flames above Çıralı, the Olympos ruins and tree-house scene, Phaselis — or around Antalya's old town and beaches.
Antalya is much bigger and busier than Dalaman, and keeps more routes running through winter — handy for off-season travel. The trade-off is that it's a longer, more impersonal airport, and everything west of Kaş is a serious drive away. Kaş: the genuine toss-up
Kaş is the one place where the answer isn't automatic. It's roughly 2.5 hours from Dalaman and around 3 hours from Antalya — close enough that the decision usually comes down to which flight is cheaper, better-timed, or non-stop from your city. Dalaman keeps a slight edge on drive time, and the road from Dalaman down past Kalkan is gorgeous. But if a direct Antalya flight saves you a connection, take it. Either works for a Kaş holiday.
What about transfers and cost?
Once you've picked the airport, you still need to get to your hotel. The options, cheapest to priciest per person:
- Airport / HAVAŞ-style buses — cheap and run to the main towns (Dalaman → Fethiye is well served). Slower, scheduled, and you may need an onward taxi at the other end.
- Shared shuttle — door-area drop-offs, cheaper than private, but you wait for a full vehicle and other passengers' stops.
- Private transfer — door-to-door, your own car, driver meets you. The easy, stress-free choice, especially with luggage, kids or a late arrival.
- Hire car — best if you plan to roam (Saklıkent, Patara, day trips). Pick up at the airport, return there or at the other airport for an open-jaw.
As rough private-transfer ballparks (approximate, and Turkey's inflation moves them): Dalaman → Fethiye around €35–55 for the car; Dalaman → Kalkan or Kaş more like €70–120 because it's much further; Antalya → Çıralı/Olympos around €60–100.
