Dalaman to Patara transfer. €70–100 private saloon, 2 hours direct, meet-and-greet at arrivals. Patara pension drop, Lycian Way Stage 5/6 trailhead.

Patara village sits 145 km from Dalaman Airport (DLM) — about 2 hours on the D400, then 5 km down a side road. Two main reasons travellers come: Patara’s 18-km golden beach + Lycian ruins, and as a Lycian Way restart point. There’s no airport shuttle to Patara, so pre-booked is the only sensible choice. Short answer

Pre-book a private saloon for €70–100. Driver waits at arrivals with a placard, drives direct to your Patara pension. 2 hours, 145 km, including the 5 km descent off the D400 to the village. Walk-up taxi runs €160–200 and there’s no shuttle alternative.

For Lycian Way hikers, prefer the estate (€85–115) over the saloon for pack space. For the small “Patara to Kalkan as a hiking shuttle” one-way trip later, your Patara pension can usually arrange a local at €30–40 — flag at booking.

The route

Dalaman Airport (DLM) sits inland from the Mediterranean. The standard route to Patara:

  1. Exit airport on the access road (5 min) connecting to the D550.
  2. D550 south-east through Sarıgerme + Göcek for 20–25 min.
  3. Junction onto the D400 coastal road, east through Fethiye (15 min through-traffic).
  4. D400 through the Esen valley to the Patara junction signed for “Patara” / “Patara Beach” (40 min).
  5. Turn off D400 onto the village road, descending 5 km past Kınık village to Patara’s narrow lanes (10 min).

Total ~2 hours door-to-door. Add 20–30 min for July–August Saturday peak.

What to ask before you book

Patara is the smallest of these destinations and most family-pension. The questions that matter for this route:

  1. “Which Patara pension are we going to, exactly?” Drivers know the village by name. Beyhan, Akay, Flowers, Patara View Point, Patara Antik — these names route the driver directly. A vague address slows things down.
  2. “Estate or saloon for two Lycian Way packs?” Patara is a Stage 5/6 trailhead. Hikers arrive heavy. Estate is the right pick for two 60–80L packs.
  3. “Can we add Xanthos or Letoon as a 30-min stop on the way?” Both UNESCO ruins are en route, just before the Patara turn-off. Most operators add €15–25 for the detour. Brilliant first-day Lycia experience.
  4. “Is dinner already booked at the pension if we arrive at 9pm?” Patara village quiets early. Some pensions stop kitchen by 9pm. Confirm with the pension via WhatsApp before the flight, not in transit.
  5. “Can the same driver pick us up from Patara when we leave?” Round-trip with the same operator usually saves €15–20 vs two bookings, and the driver knows your pension.

No shuttle to Patara. Unlike Fethiye or Ölüdeniz, Patara has no airport shuttle service. Your only walk-up alternative to a pre-booked transfer is a Dalaman taxi at €160–200, or the dolmuş via Fethiye otogar then Kınık (3 changes, 4+ hours with bags). Pre-book is the realistic choice.
